Ms. Lee represents clients charged with serious violent crimes in both state and federal court. She is known for her extremely thorough approach to developing the factual record and her ability to craft powerfully persuasive legal arguments to support the client’s position. Ms. Lee has been involved in some of the high-profile cases in the Northwest, including homicides and large-scale RICO investigations. She also represents individuals charged with assault, robbery, and vehicular homicide.

Examples of notable cases include:

  • Ms. Lee represented an environmental activist who was targeted in the Operation Backfire investigation of ELF arsons across the Western United States. The client, Daniel McGowan faced a mandatory minimum sentence of life in prison on charges related to two arsons in Oregon. The case was resolved with a plea agreement that protected Mr. McGowan’s choice not to cooperate with government investigators. Mr. McGowan was sentenced to eight years in prison.
  • Ms. Lee represented an Army Ranger accused of participating in an armed takeover-style bank robbery in Tacoma. The client faced a mandatory minimum sentence of 30 years. Ms. Lee enlisted some of the nation’s most respected psychologist’s and presented compelling evidence of the soldier’s state of mind. While other defendants in the case received sentences of 15 years and more, Ms. Lee’s client was sentenced to 16 months.
  • Ms. Lee provides legal assistance to one of the five Guantanamo Bay prisoners who are accused of conspiring to commit the attacks on September 11, 2001. The case involves issues of constitutional magnitude, ranging from coerced confessions and enhanced interrogation techniques to the client’s right to a fair and public trial in a civilian courtroom in the United States.
  • Ms. Lee represented the national president of the Bandidos Motorcycle Club, who was indicted on racketeering charges in federal court. The allegations against the client included attempted murder, arson, and witness tampering, and the client faced a potential life sentence. The case was resolved with a sentence of 20 months, and the client maintained his ability to participate in club activities.
